CAILLAVET (Gaston Arman de).
Colombine. Bluette in one act and in verse. Paris, Marpon & Flammarion, s.d. [1890]. In-8, paperback, untrimmed. First edition. First published work of the author, then 21 years old. It was performed in May 1890: Jeanne Pouquet, whom Caillavet would marry three years later, played the role of Colombine; we also find his friend Marcel Proust, who was approached for the role of Pierrot but was given the role of prompter because "military service had prevented him from attending all the rehearsals" (Michelle Maurois, L'Encre dans le sang, 1982, p. 76). A unique copy, bearing the printed mention Exemplaire de Colombine (thus Jeanne Pouquet's), enriched in the text with 7 original pencil and watercolour drawings. The volume is partly disbound, the first cover detached.
