BECQUE (Henry).
Les Corbeaux - Comedy in 4 acts. Sets of proofs corrected by the author for the original edition. 142 pages in-12 and completed by 28 autograph pages, format in-4 and in-folio. This set is preceded by an autograph letter signed by Léon Hennique (1 p. in-8), completed by a catalogue record of the Dubois bookstore, pasted on the bottom of the letter just below the signature. Bound in contemporary havana morocco, framed with seven gilt fillets on the boards, spine ribbed, gilt title, triple fillet on the entrenerfs, double fillet on the edges, six fillet on the back covers (Chambolle-Duru). Interesting and precious set of proofs abundantly corrected of the masterpiece of naturalist theatre, one of the most outstanding plays of the 19th century. These proofs are completed by numerous autograph passages (some folded pages) written in ink. They include important variants and reworkings introduced during the printing process. The numbering of the autograph pages follows that of the proofs giving the complete text of the play. This set was most certainly put together by the author for printing purposes. This drama in four acts and in prose was first performed at the Comédie-Française on 14 September 1882.
