LABICHE (Eugène).
La Mémoire d'Hortense - Comedy in 1 act. Autograph manuscript (s.l.n.d.) 70 folio pages from 1 to 68 including a title page and a page with the cast, in-4 on Hudelist d'Hallines laid paper. This manuscript is presented in a beautiful brown half cloth slipcase with corners, red morocco title-piece on the first plate and the spine, gilt author and title, double gilt fillet in the frame. The first half of the title page is heavily soiled. A very interesting autograph manuscript with a few variations from the printed version and numerous corrections by Labiche. This play was written in collaboration with the vaudevillist Alfred Delacour, who also intervened for some modifications concerning the names of the characters; Bidonneau and Mirette become respectively Pigeonneau and Fleurette as well as the distribution (see page n°1 and in the body of the text). La Mémoire d'Hortense was first performed on November 15, 1872 at the Théâtre des variétés: a man who has lost his adopted daughter (Hortense) remains attached to the company of his son-in-law, and tries by all means to prevent his son-in-law from remarrying.
