Precious unpublished manuscript by Anatole France, a work of youth written around 1868 and 1869, which he transcribed with the help of a copyist [his mother?]. There are numerous autograph and other handwritten corrections. The comedy, written in verse, has about twenty scenes, some of them very short, for seven characters of the Commedia dell'Arte. The text occupies 51 pages, one of which contains this note: "The characters in this play are all old types and, as such, too well known for us to need to give any indication of their costume or character. A.F.". This manuscript was the subject of an important study by M. Jacques Lyon, published in the Figaro of June 2, 1934.
