MUSSET (Alfred de).
[Theatre]. Paris, Charpentier, 1847-1866. Set of 11 volumes in-12, green half-maroquin with corners, smooth spine decorated in full, untrimmed, cover and spine (Mercier sr de Cuzin). A complete collection of Musset's 11 most important plays, published in separate editions on the occasion of their first performance by the author himself, then, after his death, by his brother Paul. It consists of the following titles: - Un Caprice. Comedy in one act and in prose. 1847. - Il faut qu'une porte soit ouverte ou fermée. Proverb. 1848. - Le Chandelier. Comedy in 3 acts. 1848. - Il ne faut jurer de rien. Comedy in three acts and prose. 1849. - Louison. Comedy in two acts and in verse. 1849. - André del Sarto. Drama in two acts and prose. 1851. - Bettine. Comedy in one act and in prose. 1851. - Les Caprices de Marianne. Comedy in two acts, in prose. 1851. - On ne badine pas avec l'amour. Comedy in three acts, in prose. 1861. - Carmosine. Comedy in three acts, in prose. 1865. - Fantasio. Comedy in three acts, in prose. 1866. All these plays are in original edition or appear here for the first time separately. It should be noted that L'Habit vert, a play performed and published in 1849 by Michel Lévy frères, and added to some of the rare collections, is not included. Indeed, this occasional work, written in collaboration with Émile Augier, can only be associated anecdotally with Musset's theatre: moreover, it was never included in his works, neither by him, nor later by his brother Paul, whereas it appears in those of Augier. Magnificent collection, in a very fine uniform binding by Emile Mercier, with covers as new. From the library of Paul Villeboeuf, a figure of high bibliophily of his time, with his gilt figure and bookplate. Slight brown trace following the presence of a bookmark in some volumes.
