PERCHERON (Luc).
Pyrrhe, tragedy. Paris, De l'Imprimerie de Crapelet, 1845. In-8, green morocco, boards covered with a decoration of compartments arranged around a central quatrefoil and decorated with fleurons and filigree irons, spine decorated with an interlacing decoration in the boxes, lining of lemon morocco, large gilt lace and mosaic of black, gilt head, untrimmed, case (E. Niedrée 1847). "Notice of a book of excessive rarity...", in Bulletin du bibliophile, 1845, pp. 159-167. First edition, very rare, of this ancient tragedy dated 1592 and due to an Angevin poet whose work has nothing to envy to the esteemed productions of Jodelle and Robert Garnier. It was edited by Max de Clinchamp and Raoul de Montesson, eminent bibliophiles from Le Mans, according to an autograph manuscript preserved in the library of Le Mans, and printed in only 16 copies, all of which were offered as gifts to bibliophiles: as the dedication leaf bearing the autograph signature of the publishers indicates, ours was intended for Adolphe Lanier, bookseller-publisher of Le Mans. A superb copy in a delightful lined binding by Niedrée, decorated with a design inspired by the luxurious compartmented bindings of Florimond Badier... The copy comes from the libraries of Robert Samuel Turner (1878, n°404), with his bookplate, and Octave de Béhague (I, 1880, n°828). It is quoted by Brunet (supplement, t. II, col. 198).
