In-8, mouse grey morocco, jansenist, gilt fillet inside, blue grey morocco lining, brocaded silk endpapers, double marbled paper endpapers, gilt edges, untrimmed, cover and back (Marius Michel). First edition, with a beautiful etched frontispiece by Edouard May. Autograph note from Alfred de Vigny mounted at the head : My friend, would you like to come tomorrow to the last rehearsal of Chatterton ? - ask me amy Français at one o'clock in the afternoon you will find friendship on all sides [...]. We have copied your engraving of Lord Beckford... Copy in morocco lined by Marius Michel, from the Louis Barthou library (I, 1935, n°288), with his bookplate. The first four autograph letters described in the Barthou catalogue have been removed from the copy. Prospectus for the Chroniques de la marine française bound at the end (4 pages). Hinges and upper hinge restored. Spine re-stained.
