Collection of 10 plays in one volume in-8, glazed havana calf, double gilt fillet and cold-stamped roulette, ornamented spine, black title-piece, double fillet inside, gilt edges (Binding mid 19th century). Important collection of 10 comedies in verse, most of them in first edition, by Jean-François Collin d'Harleville (1755-1804), playwright and poet elected to the academic chair in 1803. It includes his masterpiece, Le Vieux célibataire. 1) L'Inconstant. Paris, Prault, 1786. Portrait of the author in bust, engraved by Frémy after Houdon. 2) L'Optimiste, ou L'homme content de tout. Paris, Madame Masson, Year XII (1804). 4 of the pieces are sent by the author, 3 of which are addressed to his friend Pons de Verdun (1759-1844), lawyer and deputy to the National Convention, author of numerous pieces for the Almanach des muses and of a famous epigram entitled Le Bibliomane. Angular restoration to two leaves. A few light freckles. Spine lightened, halos on the boards.
