COMPANY THEATRE. - NÉRICAULT DESTOUCHES.... - Lot 24 - Giquello
COMPANY THEATRE. - NÉRICAULT DESTOUCHES. The Glorious, a comedy in verse, in five acts. Paris, Prault, 1760 - DEUIL (Le). Comedy. S.l.n.d. - PIRON. La Métromanie, comedy. Paris, Duchesne, 1760. 3 plays in one volume in-12, marbled calf, cold fillet, smooth spine decorated, red title, red edges (Binding of the second half of the 18th century). Collection of 3 plays by Parat de Chalandray, receiver general of finances and, it seems, passionate about dramatic art as indicated by this handwritten note on the first guard: Bought these Comedies to play them at Athis in 1766, 1767, 1768, 1769. Chalandray. Interesting testimony to the taste for private theatre under the reign of Louis XV. In each of the comedies, the names of the actors are indicated under their roles: thus we find familiar names of the court such as the viscountess of Rochechouart, the marquis of Choiseul, Madame Meulan d'Ablois, the marquis and the marquise of Tourny, etc. We also learn that Parat de Chalandray played the role of Valère in the Glorieux and Timante in the comedy Le Deuil. Armorial bookplate of Parat de Chalandray, rue de l'Université, engraved by Bertault.
