MARIVAUX (Pierre CARLET DE).
Comedies played on the theatre of the Hôtel de Bourgogne, by the ordinary Italian actors of the King. Paris, Briasson, 1732. - Works of theatre. Paris, Prault père, 1740-1748. Together 7 volumes in-12, marbled calf, triple gilt fillet, smooth spine decorated, red title and lemon tomaison, gilt number at the end, red edges (Bindings of the time). Rare set of Marivaux's comedies, composed of the first collective edition of 1732, and the edition of 1740, to which the last volume of the edition of 1748 has been added, including 3 additional plays (L'Épreuve, Le Préjugé vaincu, and La Dispute) as well as the author's reception speech at the Académie française on February 4, 1743. Our copy thus gathers 28 plays by Marivaux, i.e. almost all of his theatre. Handwritten bookplate on the titles: M. Dermé. Precious copy from the Louis Jouvet library (2005, n°220). Binding rubbed, one hinge and a few jaws cracked, some bindings showing slight differences.
