RACINE (Jean).
Iphigenia. Tragedy. Paris, Claude Barbin, 1675. In-12, dark blue morocco, coat of arms in the centre and gilt figure in the corners, spine decorated, same figure repeated, red morocco lining, gilt lace inside, coat of arms in the centre, double marbled paper endpapers, gilt edges (Trautz-Bauzonnet). First edition. The play was first performed on August 18, 1674 in Versailles, on the occasion of the celebrations given by Louis XIV to celebrate the conquest of Franche-Comté: it was received with the greatest success. It was performed before the public a few months later, around January 1675, by the troupe of the Hôtel de Bourgogne. A fine copy in the characteristic binding designed for Albert de Naurois, descendant of Jean Racine (see lot no. 8). H. 156 mm. From the Charles Hayoit library (I, 2001, n°127).
