MOLIERE.
George Dandin, or The Confounded Mary. Paris, Jean Ribou, 1669. In-12, red morocco, boards decorated with rich compartments filled with filigree irons, spine decorated, lining of morocco of the same color decorated with a fine right lace, gilt edges (E. & A. Maylander gilt). First edition. This comedy, created in Versailles in July 1668, was part of the great royal entertainment, festivities prepared to crown the diplomatic success of Louis XIV after his victories in Franche-Comté (Guibert, t. I, pp. 284-285). A superb copy, in doubled morocco by Maylander: its remarkable compartmented decoration, in the taste of the 17th century, is a masterpiece of gilding. H. : 146 mm. From the Charles Hayoit library (I, 2001, n°79).
