The head, surmounted by an elaborate hairstyle and encircled by a necklace of sculpted cowries, rests directly on the shoulders. The forehead and the beats are marked with scarification marks. The eyes are half closed, the nose straight. The mouth reveals a series of tapered teeth. The cylindrical bust is also covered with scarifications forming a grid. The arms, glued to the body, are folded. A belt marks the waist and ringed anklets adorn the lower register. The style and patina of the object testify to its age. Romaine Brooks is an American artist who lived in Paris. She would have acquired some African works from Charles Ratton.
