Important surgical case having belonged to the Senior Navy Doctor Jean Antoine Alfred MIQUEL. In walnut, with brass fittings, decorated on the lid with a brass plate engraved "Dr A.MIQUEL, Navy Doctor" and lined inside with skin and red felt. Turntable signed "Charrière Collin & Cie" It presents two trays of about 70 surgical instruments, in polished steel, with handles in blackened wood, ebony and ivory. With presentation note in the lid of the manufacturer Mathieu for the complete case of surgical instruments "transformed model" and presentation of each instrument: Instruments for general operations, amputations, trepanation, catheterization, rectum, punctures, oesophagus, tracheotomy, instruments for teeth, for eyes. Instruments signed Charrière, Mathieu and Collin (some small lacks and accidents) 11,5 cm x 59 cm x 35 cm. With its certificate from the Health Council of the port of Brest attesting that this box is complete, of the transformed model and in good condition. Miquel is then in charge of embarking on the Marceau as a major doctor (1894). B.E. End of the 19th century. Jean Antoine Alfred MIQUEL (1848-1916) First class doctor of the Navy. Served on board the Atalante and the Marceau. Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1884. Maison Charrière Collin & cie manufacturers of surgical instruments. Louis Mathieu (1816- 1879), Master cutler student of Frederic Charriere. It is probable that he was in charge of the transformation of the original Charrière case.
