Megalodon tooth, Carcharocles Miocene, eastern... - Lot 146 - Giquello
Megalodon tooth, Carcharocles Miocene, eastern United States H.10 cm The megalodon appears to have been a larger version of the great white shark, with large teeth. It was one of the most fearsome predators the oceans have ever seen. It was up to 18 metres long, weighed up to 50 tonnes and had huge jaws with up to 276 teeth (the origin of the name megalodon comes from the Greek for "big tooth"). No other marine animal had a bite as powerful as his. It is estimated that the pressure exerted by its large jaw was twice that of the Tyrannosaurus, enough to crush a car.
