Single double-shell bed on castors, model created in 1966, in polyester and white fibreglass with raised edges decorated with a rubber seal on corner castors. H. 25 cm - W. 200 cm - D. 100 cm BIBLIOGRAPHY: Éric Germain, Marc Held - Du design à l'architecture, Éditions Norma, Paris, 2009, model reproduced pp. 88, 92 and referenced p. 243. 88, 92 and referenced on p. 243. THE TIME OF PLASTICS Plastics were already being used, such as bakelite, during the 1930s, with different varieties, natural, semi-synthetic or synthetic. With the industrial and chemical advances made in the 1960s, they have become more resistant, easier to model and have a smoother, shinier appearance. As they are particularly resistant to heat, external aggression and light, they are easy to maintain and can adopt vibrant colours. These many qualities are quickly making them a fashionable material and propelling them into the heart of modern homes, where they first enter the kitchen and then invade the living room. If Italy is a pioneer in this production in Europe, France is not to be outdone and sees the formation of a young avant-garde of designers, largely illustrated by our collection. It is notably represented by Marc Berthier, who launched the first collection of fiberglass furniture called Ozoo in 1967, Marc Held and his famous Culbuto published by Knoll, or Pierre Paulin and Patrick Gingembre. Their creations, which are functional, playful and brightly coloured, offer completely original shapes that break down aesthetic conventions and set themselves up as the models of the future. Their lightness also allows a great modulability which revolutionizes the interiors by decompartmentalizing the uses of the private cell. Finally, their prices and their means of distribution make them accessible to all.
