In-8, paperback, contemporary cover. Reprinted separately from the Nouveau dictionnaire d'histoire naturelle de Deterville. Louis Dufresne (1752-1832), naturalist and curator at the Muséum d'Histoire naturelle de Paris, was the first to use the term taxidermy in 1803, and the techniques described in his work became widespread during the 19th century. The copy on the cover is a copy sent to Monsieur Paul de Chevreuse, duc de Luynes and peer of France from 1814 to 1830.
