Nice vignette of La Pologne Illustrée. Paris, January 1, 1840. Address on the back "Monsieur Victor Hugo - 6, place Royale". He sends him the first 3 booklets of La Pologne Illustrée. "The system of denationalisation which weighs on Poland, imposes on every good Pole, the duty to collect the annals and memories of the fatherland. I have devoted my life to this work and today I am publishing a summary of my studies. Illustrated Poland will deal with the history of the 18th and 19th centuries. I will deal with those great events when Poland was still allied with France, when the glory of the two countries merged as they had hoped [...]". - Olympe Chodzko, his wife, woman of letters, friend of Marie Dorval. 2 L.A.S. to Victor Hugo. 1830 and s.d. 3 pp. in-8. Me Dorval allowed me to say, on Sunday evening, at my home, one or two scenes from a great poet. We shall see again with new admiration, Marion Delorme and Lucrèce Borgia (...)".
