Senneh Kurdish carpet, (cotton warp and weft,... - Lot 291 - Giquello
Senneh Kurdish carpet, (cotton warp and weft, wool velvet), Northwest Persia, ca. 1930 1.49 x 1.10 m The carpet is decorated with a double central ivory and blue medallion on a navy blue background with a herati pattern. This motif is composed of a diamond-shaped curved stem, which encloses a rosette and is surmounted by a palmette at each apex, repeated ad infinitum, with four falciform leaves next to each other on each side. This design adorned the Herat Carpets to which it owes its name. A red border with a succession of small polychrome medallions encircles the composition. (Damaged edges)
