Comb, Yaka, Democratic Republic of the Congo Early... - Lot 77 - Giquello
Comb, Yaka, Democratic Republic of the Congo Early 20th century Wood with dark brown and light brown patina and palm oil H. 15 cm Yaka comb, Democratic Republic of the Congo H. 5 7/8 in Provenance: - Collection Pierre Dartevelle, Brussels - Galerie Jacques Germain, Montreal - Private collection Publication: - Arthur P. Bourgeois, Art of the Yaka and Suku, 1984, n°37, p. 64 This comb is a masterpiece of Yaka art. These elements of hairstyle, these small wooden combs with two or three teeth and a human and/or animal figure, are very much appreciated by the Yakas. On this comb, the snub nose of the figure's head on which a bird is resting is particularly spectacular. This object has a beautiful dark brown patina, oily on the sculpture and light brown on the comb's teeth.
