Provenance:
- Collection Régine et Guy Dulon "The Chocó are semi-nomadic Indians living upstream from the rivers that meander through the thick tropical forests of the Pacific coast of Colombia and in the east of the Darien province in Panama. "
Among the Chocó people, the Emberà are the most numerous. In this matriarchal society, "one personality has a capital role: he is the jaiband, the shaman, the sorcerer, the medicine man. (...) His most sacred tools are his carved wooden sticks (...) of the rosewood type, very dense and of a beautiful colour ranging from red-brown to black. The sticks almost always end with a human figure about 10 to 20 cm high, treated in a rather naturalistic way. "
