[MALINGRE, Claude]
General History of the Bohemian Rebellion. Containing the life and war exploits of the Count of Buquoy... Paris, Jean Petit-Pas, 1623 Beautiful copy with the arms Prondre de Guermantes. The life of one of the great Habsburg marshals at the beginning of the Thirty Years' War: Count Charles de Bucquoy (1571-1621), winner of the White Mountain Original edition. 2 volumes in-8 (172 x 108mm and 163 x 103mm). Copy set in pink. Title printed in red and black. Woodcut headbands and lettering. Snack: (10 ff.) 1-949pp. (15 ff.). Illustration: portrait of Bucquoy drawn and engraved by Pelay and 2 engraved folding plates of the Battle of the White Mountain and the Prague Reduction. Bindings of the period. Blue morocco, gilt decoration, coat of arms in the centre of the covers, triple fillet with fleur-de-lys in the corners, large fleuron in the corners, spine with very ornate and gilt ribs, the first volume with fleur-de-lys and crowned "L", the second with the number Prondre de Guermantes at the end of volume I, uniform title pieces at the time, identical tourniquet endpaper for both volumes, gilt edges on marbling. Provenance: Paulin Prondre, Marquis of Guermantes (1650-1721; arms and number), President of the Court of Auditors in 1713, famous bibliophile, owner of the "orange" castle of Guermantes. Rarity: no copy at the BnF, only 3 copies on the CCFr, one copy at Harvard. No copies on RBH, APBC, Gazette. The digitized copy of Prince Eugène, also bound in two volumes, also presents two plates (ÖNB) The dissimilarity of the bindings, reassembled one on top of the other for Prondre de Guermantes, makes this already rare book an astonishing curiosity. Reference: not in Brunet -- Barber, p. 133, 8183
