Red morocco, gilt decoration, triple fillet framed with rosette at the corners, long spine decorated with grosteque, gilt edges. Provenance: Louis-César de La Baume Le Blanc (1708-1780), Duke de La Vallière (Cat. I, 1783, no. 943: "m. r.") -- Charles van Hulthem, Bibliotheca Hulthomania, Ghent, 1836, p. 184, no. 2310 -- Henri Joliet (1822-1918; ex-libris) Adriaan Beverland (1650-1716) was both jurist and philosopher. Several of his works, described as licentious, were condemned by the Dutch courts. This book deals in part with prostitution and the debauchery of women, particularly in antiquity.
