This second translation of the masterpiece succeeds the one by Abbé Morellet dated August 1765. Beccaria modified her text several times so that this translation by Étienne Chaillou de Lisy is based on the final version of the text. Its main quality is that it follows the order of the chapters wanted by the author. In 1773, several editions of this new translation were published. Their chronology has not been established.
