With the first edition of the autobiography of Agrippa d'Aubigné: life to his children First edition of the Life to his children entitled: Secret History of Theodore Agrippa d'Aubigné, written by himself & addressed to his children (pp. (i)-clx: "And here is the speech of my life in its parternal primacy"... Preface to Le Duchat In-12 (170 x 90mm). Title of volume I printed in red and black. Illustration: engraved frontispiece in t. I. Bound around 1780, green morocco, gilt decoration, gilt spine, long spine gilt and decorated, gilt edges. Provenance: Étienne Marie Noé Dutour de Salvert, Marquis de Bellenave (1845-1909; ex-libris). The library of this member of the Société des Bibliophiles François was sold at auction in four catalogues (1909-1912). Back very slightly faded. Frontispiece a little cut in its outer margin. This edition is due to the Protestant scholar Jacob Le Duchat (1658-1735), refugee in Berlin and famous publisher of Rabelais. Among the "attested copies" of this great autobiography listed by F. Pic, the most remarkable are: the copies in calf with the arms of Count d'Hoym, the Duke of Liancourt, the Knight of Altermatt (Roger Peyrefitte) or D. F. Secousse. No copy quoted in old morocco.
