Huysmans Huysmans met Léon Hennique (1851-1935) in 1876: the naturalist novelist made his debut in La République des Lettres, a periodical created by Catulle Mendès. Both were part of Médan's group and together they composed a pantomime on the theme of Pierrot, published in 1881 but never performed on stage.
