HEAD OF AN ATLANTLE Toltec culture, High Central Plateau of Mexico Ancient post-classical, AH 850-1250 AH 61.5 cm Anthracite grey hard stone 4,500/5,000 Fragment of a large Atlantean statue showing a beautiful face unfortunately visibly rugged with open oval eyes surmounted by powerful eyebrow arches extending into a long fractured nose bearing the famous transverse ring probably made of gold. The skull is covered with a high cap, enclosed by a simple rectangular band and surmounted by two truncated conical elements separated by a vertical groove. Reverse side flat.
