LARGE FIGURE FEMALE JAMA-CAQUIL CULTURE, PROVINCE OF MANABI, ECUADOR 500 BC. - 500 A.D. Light brown ceramic with remains of yellow ochre and turquoise blue ornamental paint, with slightly oxidized black surface H. 43.5 cm Female, bare-chested, wearing a simple skirt around the waist and covering the thighs. Heavy shoulders extending into arms showing hands with fingers folded over the palm. Imposing necklace, the central pendant resting between the breasts. Beautiful head with a skull ritually deformed towards the back, the nose supporting a nariguera, the chin decorated with a tembleta and the ears adorned with repetitive pastille earrings. (Broken glued, surface wear, small lacks). Provenance: Private collection, Paris, 1980-1990.
