KATSINA HOE (KACHINA CLOWN) OR NAVAN Hopi,... - Lot 4 - Giquello
KATSINA HOE (KACHINA CLOWN) OR NAVAN Hopi, Arizona Years 1920 H. 22 cm This figure embodies a Kachina from the Clown family. Clowns played the role of troublemakers or troublemakers during ceremonial dances. Beyond the playful dimension of their performances, the Clowns emphasized the importance of harmony, order and justice in Hopi society. The representation of this Kachina is very close to that of the Kachina Navan (Kachina with a velvet shirt) although the latter is generally more colourful in its mask and costume. Provenance: Collection of Mister A. F., Paris
