Unsigned, French or German, first quarter... - Lot 123 - Giquello
Unsigned, French or German, first quarter of the 18th century, unsigned, brass "Déclinatoire" or "mobile horizontal dial". Instrument composed of two brass plates, one mobile on the other. The first is engraved with a scale of degrees in four quadrants, an indication of the part (north) to be applied to the wall (Latus Muri Applicantant) and indications for west and east. The second (mobile) plate is equipped with a compass (missing the needle) with a magnetic declination mark at 14° West, and engraved with a horizontal sundial for latitude 48° 45'. The instrument is used to find out by how much a wall on which one wants to draw a dial declines west or east of the meridian.
