SCAPULA (Johannes).
Lexicon graecolatinum novum. Basel, Sebastien Henricpetrus, n.d. [at the end: September 1594]. In-folio, brown calf, gilt and cold-framed fillets in frame, small gilt medallion in centre, spine decorated, monogram repeated in the boxes (contemporary binding). Third edition of this lexicon originally published in 1580 by Johannes Scapula, a German philologist and lexicographer who had worked as a proofreader in Henri Estienne's printing works. Printed on two columns in small Greek and Roman characters, about 80 lines per page. Copy in its first binding, decorated on the spine with the repeated monogram of an amateur of the time, probably the same one who affixed his handwritten ex-libris at the top of the title: Ex Bibliotheca Joannis de Boulonois Primarii Colleg. [...] 1600. Passages were formerly crossed out with a pen (col. 838, 1260 and 1796), the ink sometimes weakening the paper. Wettings, worm gallery at the corner of several leaves. Very restored binding, worm gallery on the first cover.
