RÉVOLUTION BELGIQUE.
- GERMANA, TARTARA AND BELGICA PUNITIO Quoddam Maroci Imperatoris. - German, Tartar and Belgian Punishment. Following the idea of the Emperor of Morocco. With Figures. In Brabant, 1787. Platelet in-4 of 12 pages, bradel cartonnage, green title piece on the spine (modern binding). Extremely rare pamphlet of the "belgian" revolution of 1787-1790. This diatribe denounces the power of the intendants and administrators: I am thinking of the Intendances, this diabolical invention. It contains a dialogue between four characters who discuss the slavery of the people and the physical torture inflicted by the stewards, and describes the instrument they used to punish their victims: an astonishing copper engraved plate illustrates this horrible and humiliating punishment. A copy with a coloured plate at the time and a large, stunning copperplate engraving unfolding at the top, depicting a man on a lion-drawn chariot, trampling another naked man on the ground; the latter has this handwritten legend: The Mighty Crowd at the feet, the weak man threatening and laughing at his foolish audacity. Marginal tear restored to the last page, wetness at the top of the first two pages.
