History of Knight Bayard, lieutenant general for the King in the Government of Daulphine [sic], and of many memorable things that happened in France, Italy, Spain, & &s Netherlands. Paris, Abraham Picard, 1616. In-4, granite basane, spine decorated, edges speckled with red and black (contemporary binding). Second edition of this story composed by Jacques de Mailles, "loyal servant" and companion in arms of the famous Bayard, "knight without fear and without reproach" who was one of the heroes of the Italian wars under Francis I. The book was first published in 1527. This new edition, dedicated to Louis XIII and published by the historiographer Théodore Godefroy, is decorated with a beautiful copper-engraved portrait of the knight Bayard. 17th century manuscript ex-libris on the title. Small gallery and wormhole in the bottom of the first half of the volume, without gravity. Corners rubbed and hooked to the headdresses. Large epidermis on the second plate.
