Paris, Cellot, Jombert, 1774-1780-1781. 3 volumes in-4, marbled basane, decorated spine, red title and green tomaison pieces (contemporary binding). Original edition of this work describing mining and metallurgical know-how in Europe in the 18th century, by Gabriel Jars (1732-1769), French mining engineer, metallurgist and member of the Institute. The 44 memoirs it contains, relating to mineral resources and their exploitation, were written by the author during his various missions to Germany, Sweden, Norway, England and Scotland. On his death, they were collected and published by his elder brother. The illustration includes 52 folding plates depicting machines and their operation, technical drawings, mine plans, the layout of veins, ore veins, etc. Rubbed sections.
