History of Roy Henry the Great. Paris, De l'Imprimerie d'Edme Martin, 1661. In-4, brown calf, spine decorated, red title coin, red edges (Binding from the first half of the 18th century). Original edition of this famous biography of Henri IV, dedicated to Cardinal Mazarin. The passage concerning the liaison of the future Henri IV with Charlotte de Sauves in 1574, the lady who was the most beautiful of the Court, but who at first became the least wise (pp. 37, lines 3-4), deleted in subsequent editions, is here crossed out, the "censor" having added a full stop after the word Court (line 3). A copy offered by the author, with this pen notation on the title page: Ex dono Authoris. Moulding touching the introductory notebooks, the inner hinge consolidated. Head cover levelled, small rubbing at the binding, traces of white wax on the second cover.
