Letters about Egypt. Paris, Onfroi, 1785-1786. 3 volumes in-8, marbled calf, decorated smooth spine, red edges (contemporary binding). Gay, n°1622. - Ibrahim-Hilmy, t. II, p 214. Original edition, decorated with 4 folding maps. Claude-Étienne Savary stayed in Alexandria, Rosetta and Cairo from 1776 to 1778. He is considered one of the pioneers of Egyptology and is credited with a French translation of the Koran. A few freckles, reinforcement in the fold of one of the maps. The false titles of volumes II and III are missing. Binding skillfully restored.
