ABEL (Niels Henrik).
"Demonstration of the impossibility of solving general algebraic equations of a degree greater than four". In: SAIGEY and FÉRUSSAC, Bulletin des sciences mathématiques, physiques et chimiques, n°12, December 1826, pp. 347-354. In-8, paperback, untrimmed, blue cover printed in black. The theorem of Niels Henrik Abel (1802-1829), a Norwegian mathematician, is one of the fundamental theorems of the theory of equations. In a letter addressed to his friend Holmboe in October 1826, Abel admits to being himself the author of this article: An excerpt from my thesis on the impossibility of solving algebraic equations was inserted in Férussac's bulletin. I did it myself (cf. Abel, Œuvres complètes, t. II, 1881, p. 260).
