VIRGILE.
Opera. S.l.n.d. Lyon, Jacques Sacon, August and December 1517]. 2 parts in one large volume in folio, sow skin cold stamped on bevelled ais, decoration drawn by multiple fillets and wheels, traces of clasps, spine covered with fawn basane (Binding of the period). Baudrier, t. XII, pp. 344-346. - Renouard, Josse Bade, vol. III, pp. 370-372. Beautiful Lyon edition, edited by the humanist Josse Bade. Remarkable illustration including a little more than 200 woods from the Virgil printed in Strasbourg in 1502 by Grüninger. Copy preserved in its primitive binding in stamped sowskin, the spine covered in the 18th century with fawn basane. About fifteen woods mutilated or de-baked with ink, the figures concerned being in particular Venus and Juno; the affected figures have sometimes been replaced by skillful facsimiles, glued back in the damaged areas. Stains and wet spots on several pages. Title partly doubled, bottom of the second leaf reinforced, important lack of paper (repaired) at the corner of the last leaf.
