NICANDRE DE COLOPHON.
Theriaca. Alexipharmaca [graecae and latinae]. - Theriaca scholia. Paris, Guillaume Morel, 1557. 2 volumes in one volume in-4, calf turned over, red title piece on spine (Modern pastiche binding). Durling, no. 3341. First complete edition of the translation and commentary of the physician Jean de Gorris (1505-1577) on the Theriacs and Alexipharmaks by Nicander, a Greek poet and physician of the 2nd century B.C., two poems dealing with toxicology, mainly venoms, poisons and antidotes. This Latin version is very famous. Each part has a separate title. Remarkable printing by Guillaume Morel, the scolies (80 pp.) being entirely printed in Greek characters. A few freckles, especially on the general title, a few leaflets a little cut short at the head.
