MONTAIGNE (Michel de).
Testing. Second, revised & expanded edition. Bourdeaus [sic], S. Millanges, 1582. In-8, marbled fawn calf, decorated spine, red title coin, red edges (18th century binding). Tchemerzine, t. IV, p. 871. Second original edition, extremely rare. Printed in beautiful finer and sharper type than the original of 1580, it includes many corrections and additions. Copy in an old binding, very rare condition. It is nearly 152 mm high, the same size as the Escoffier copy (1933, no. 94) and the copy from the Rochebilière collection described by Claudin (no. 2) as having quite large margins. Ex-libris on the title, one of which is cut. Missing the last page containing the privilege. Hole removing a few letters from the Mm2 sheet. A few slight freckles; the title was mistakenly put back up before the end sheets, a little shorter than the other sheets of the volume, it seems to come from another copy. Used binding with missing parts, very rubbed spine, part of the title piece is missing, blunt corners.
