MÉSUÉ (Joannes).
Textus Mesue. S.l., 1540 [at colophon]: Lyon, Benoît Bonnyn, 1539. 3 parts in one volume in-8, soft vellum, red speckled edges (Binding of the 17th century). Durling, n°3138. Rare gothic edition of this collection of medical texts, including in particular the treatises of Joannes Mésué, a famous Arab physician who lived in the 8th and 9th centuries. The biography of this practitioner, by Symphorien Champier, can be found in the volume (ff. A3-A5v°). Printing in small gothic characters by Benedict Bonnin, a printer active in Lyon in the first half of the 16th century and for whom Baudrier does not seem to have drawn up a list of publications (cf. Baudrier, t. XI, p. 526). Typographical mark of the Junta on the last page. The last two parts of the volume contain the Summula Jacobi de Partibus per Alphabetum super plurimis remedis... and the Modus medendi Cophonis, in separate pagination, with a particular title page for the first one decorated with the fleur-de-lis of the Florence Junta. Manuscript ex-libris on the title: Massotus Valentinus Incola 1630 (?). Wetness and freckles on several leaves, especially at the beginning of the volume.
