Pharsalia. S.l. [Paris], Josse Bade and Jean Petit, s.d. [at colophon]: 1514. In-folio, overlapping vellum, smooth spine with title in ink, blue edges (17th century binding). Renouard, Josse Bade, vol. III, p. 23. Second edition published and annotated by Josse Bade, after the 1506 edition. Reviewed by Gérard de Verceil, it also contains comments by Philippe Béroalde and notes by Antonio Sabellico, Jacobo Bononiensi and Battista Pio. A Life (Poete Vita) of Lucain by Béroalde completes the volume. Printed in Roman characters, the text of the Pharsal surrounded by the copious commentaries on two columns. Title printed in red and black, set in a beautiful woodcut frame, decorated in the centre with the typographic mark of Josse Bade. Old manuscript bookplates erased from the title; the shield at the bottom of the frame bears a monogram drawn in ink, unidentified. Current title of several leaves touched or cut by the bookbinder's knife. Brown ink stain on the spine.
