Quintus Horatius Flaccus [Opera]. Birmingham, John Baskerville, 1770. In-4, long grain red morocco, broad gold lace, spine decorated, inner wheel, gilt edges (contemporary English binding). Gaskell, no. 39. Superb edition, with a pretty frontispiece engraved by Henriquez and a title vignette by Le Grand. According to Thomas Dibdin (1776-1847), a famous English bibliographer, this edition is the rarest of all those issued by the Baskerville presses. An 18th-century lace copy in morocco, including the suite of 4 figures by Gravelot, which would have been attached to only part of the copies. Hinges and corners rubbed together, hooked to the headdresses, dark spine. UNCUNABLE. See lots 7, 51, 56, 93, 119, 120 and 233.
