HOMÈRE.
Ulyssea una cum Didymi autoris antiquissimi interpretatione [graece et latinae]. Basel, Johannes Herwagen, 1541. In-folio, fawn calf, spine decorated with gilt fleurons, edges speckled with red (17th century binding). Second Basel edition of Homer's works after the 1535 edition (cf. Schoell, History of Secular Greek Literature, vol. I, p. 155). Published by Jacobus Mycillus (1503-1558) and Joachim Camerarius (1500-1574), both close friends of Melanchthon, it includes the scolies attributed to Didymus. Remarkable printing in Greek characters from Herwagen's presses, whose typographical mark adorns the back of the last leaf. This volume forms the second and last part of the edition, containing the complete text of the Odyssey. Clear freckles on the title and the last leaf. Extremely worn binding, missing caps and cracked top hinge.
