Institutionis grammaticae libri quatuor. Paris, Chrétien Wechel, 1539-1536-1535. 4 parts in one volume in-8, brown calf, double cold fillet binding, fleuron in the corners and in the center, spine ribbed, ochre title pieces (16th century binding). Translation by Jean Vatel of the Grammar of Theodore Gaza, a Byzantine humanist and grammarian who lived in the 15th century and whose work was used in the 16th century for the teaching of the Greek language. The Latin translation is printed in italics next to the Greek text. Composite copy, the last two parts being issues prior to 1536 (liber tertius) and 1535 (liber quartus). 16th century manuscript ex-libris on title. Long later handwritten note on the endpapers. Marginal moulding on a few leaves. Very restored binding, spine redone. One box partly torn off and peeled off.
