Opera omnia [graecae and latinae]. Basel, Andreas Cratander, Johannes Bebel, Johannes Herwagen and Johannes Erasmus, 1538. 5 volumes in folio, granite basane, spine decorated, edges speckled with red (17th century binding). Cushing, G7. - Durling, n°1749. Very rare and remarkable second edition in Greek of the complete works of Galen, published under the aegis of the scholars Joachim Camerarius (1500-1574), Leonhard Fuchs (1501-1566) and Hieronymus Gemuseus (1505-1544). Galen's text is printed in Greek characters, and the introductory pieces in Roman. The editio princeps of Galen was published in Venice by Aldus in 1525, also in five volumes. Large engraved armorial bookplate, undetermined, on the counterplates. Some old handwritten annotations in the margins of Volumes II and V. The A2 leaf of Volume II, and the last two leaves of Volume V (the last, blank) are missing. Freckles, marginal wetness on a few leaves. Volume II: detached sheets of the A book. Volume V: restoration in the margins of several leaves, fold marks transverse to the last 3 leaves, the last one partly detached. Used binding with missing, torn caps.
