Second edition of the French translation by Gabriel Chappuys of this encyclopaedic work initially published in Italian in 1564 in Venice and dealing with various subjects: military art, agriculture, medicine, mechanical arts, navigation, gastronomy, hunting and fishing, architecture, etc. Old manuscript ex-libris on the title: aux Augustins de Rennes. Small repair on the edge of the first 3 leaves including the title. Light moulding on a few leaves. Bound in the continuation, of the same: Les Caprices. Paris, Pierre Cavellat, 1586. Translation by Claude Rocard, apothecary of Troyes, of this work about medicine and containing the formula and the wonderful properties of the artificial balm of Fioravanti, the elixir of life and the angelic electuary. Rubbed binding, lower hinge levelled.
