Extremely rare 16th century medical treatise by William Bullein († c. 1575-1576), physicist and physician of the English Renaissance. This second edition, published after the 1562 original, is divided into 4 parts: The Booke of Simples (one of the oldest printed English herbariums), A litle dialogue betweene two men.. concerning Apostumations, The Booke of Compounds, The Booke of the use of sicke men and medicines. Printed in Gothic characters, it is decorated in the text with a few woods of different sizes (horns, plants and anatomical figures). The general title is placed in a beautiful woodcut frame. Armorial ex-libris engraved by Richard Shuttleworth Streatfeild. Label ex-libris HBL Withdrawn. Copy containing the title and leaves 3-4 of Part I in photocopy. Consolidated transverse tear on 2 leaves, small paper shortage touching the headlines of 2 other leaves. Some wetness and stain. Stained binding, lining and endpapers renewed.
