ARISTOTE.
Opera. Basel, s.n. [Johannes Oporinus], 1538. In folio, cold-stamped sowskin on bevelled ais, large castors and sets of fillets drawing a panel on the plates, chased brass clasps, spine decorated (contemporary binding). First volume alone (of 2) of this very rare Latin edition of the complete works of Aristotle, edited by Simon Grynaeus. It contains, among others, De Aristotelis operibus censura by Jean-Luis Vives, an opuscule in which the latter examines and criticizes one after the other the texts attributed to the Stagirite. Very nice Rhenish binding from the 16th century. Handwritten ex-libris on the title, one dated 1680 (scratched), the other dated 1692 and indicating a Strasbourg provenance. Light-coloured binding with a few leaves. Numerous wormholes throughout the volume and the binding. Restoration on the second cover.
