First and unique edition. A work exclusively reserved for young people destined for diplomacy, printed in small numbers and not put on the market. The first page bears this warning: This work is printed only as a proof and is not intended for the public. ...] each proof will bear a number, which will be recorded in a register with the name of the person to whom the proof will be entrusted. The book provides advice on how to obtain and file information about the country to which each young diplomat will be posted; the elements of a mission to Brazil are given as examples in this volume. Count d'Hauterive (1754-1830), a diplomat and collaborator of Talleyrand's, headed the diplomatic school created at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the end of the 18th century. Mention of belonging handwritten in pen on the first page, illegible.
